The Salisbury Stamp and Collectables Show
On 17 and 18 May the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury in Wiltshire played host to the latest Salisbury Stamp and Collectables Show. Organised by the city’s resident stamp dealer, Paul Dauwalder, this two-day event took place at City Hall in the centre of Salisbury. The hall is conveniently located just a short walk from the city’s Central Car Park, meaning parking was not a problem — although charges did apply. Thankfully, entry to the show itself was free.
The show seemed to take over every available square inch of the City Hall, including the entrance foyer, an upstairs room and a large main hall. The latter is where the majority of the 40 plus specialist dealers were located. Tables were nicely spaced out with plenty of room for chairs, making browsing stress-free and comfortable for visiting collectors.
As the name of the show alludes to, the Salisbury Stamp and Collectables Show is not just about stamps. While stamp dealers were by far the biggest proportion of the dealers present — including familiar names such as BB stamps, Rush Stamps and Stanley Gibbons, to name a few — the show also featured a number of dealers offering a variety of other collectables, including postcards, coins and medals.
It’s this mix of dealers that sets the Salisbury show apart from many other such events, something Paul Dauwalder, who has run his stamp shop in the historic city for the past 50 years, was keen to emphasise. ‘I think that’s where we probably have the edge over some other shows,’ Paul tells GSM. ‘Stamp collectors are very seldom just stamp collectors.
They also collect things like postcards, medals and ephemera, so we try to offer all of those things here. It makes for an interesting mix of dealer tables and also encourages other members of the family to come along as well, not just stamp collectors’. The next Salisbury Stamp and Collectables Show will take place 15-16 May 2020 at the same venue.
Every inch of Salisbury’s City Hall seemed to be taken over with dealer tables offering not only stamps but also coins, postcards medals.

Salisbury Collectors Show goes from strength to strength
FRIDAY and Saturday, May 17 and 18 2019, saw the fourth Salisbury Collectors show taking place which proved to be the best one yet, even making it onto the local TV channel. Three coach-loads of keen collectors helped to swell the numbers to around 2000, exceeding last year’s attendance. Salisbury City Hall’s foyer, main hall and first floor Alamein Suite were filled with over 40 stamp, coin, and postcard dealers. The City Hall is an ideal venue situated in the city centre with restaurants and cafes, and the central car park nearby.
A bustling City Hall at the 2019 Salisbury Collectors Show
The London 2020 international stamp exhibition will be taking place in May next year but this has not deterred dealers from booking up for the 2020 Salisbury Collectors Show. The show is gaining in popularity and several dealers have already booked their hotels for next year. Dauwalders’ had a wonderful response when asking should the show go ahead next year and the overwhelming reply was “Yes!”. Many kind comments and good wishes were received by the organisers, Dauwalders’ of Salisbury, by both dealers and collectors alike. The Salisbury Collectors Show will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, 2020 in Salisbury City Hall.
